Chef Ji Hye Kim is very committed to Michigan farmers. The menu at Miss Kim is a showcase for seasonal and local produce. Join us for this very special dinner. Feast on inspired dishes featuring the incredible produce of three Michigan farms, each led by women. Best of all, meet the women behind the farms and join their conversation about what it means to be a farmer, and a woman in the world of farming.

Featured Farms :

CD Release of "Heliosphere" with Roe Bickley Kramer

35628865_10156303861361153_8887433232698572800_n.jpg

Jesse Kramer
Award winning drummer, composer, educator, and band leader, Jesse Kramer was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI. He received his first drum lesson when he was only 5 years old. He went on to study and perform with many master jazz musicians in the area. Some of his mentors include Sean Dobbins, Vincent York, Claude Black, and Paul Keller.

In 2008, Kramer began his education at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater, and Dance, where he studied with Ellen Rowe, Dennis Wilson, Andrew Bishop, Michael Gould, Marion Hayden, and Geri Allen. While attending U of M, Kramer was awarded a DownBeat Magazine Student Music Award in the Jazz Arrangement category, and was chosen to represent the University at the 2011 International Association of Schools of Jazz meeting, directed by Dave Liebman. In 2011, Kramer graduated from U of M with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Studies.

Kramer has performed with countless local and national artists, and is also himself a respected band leader. He has recorded with artists such as Paul Keller, Demetrius Nabors, and Vincent Chandler. He also performed and recorded in Bangkok with vocalist Natasha Patamapongs and her acclaimed group Mellow Motif. The live DVD recording Ao Vivo! was released in 2015. Kramer released his first solo record, Acacia, in 2014. Acacia was a tribute and celebration to the Africanisms that have shaped modern jazz and American music and culture. The album featured Damon Warmack on bass, Glenn Tucker on keyboards, Kris Johnson on trumpet, and Marcus Elliot on saxophones. Kramer continues to create new music and perform with his band.

Kramer's eclectic taste has manifested in a unique drumming style that incorporates bebop, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, funk, and fusion. His dynamics range from sensitive storytelling, to thunderous chaos. But the best way to get to know Kramer's playing is by listening and seeing him live.

Rob Bickley
Ann Arbor native Rob Bickley received a B.M from Michigan State University and M.M from The Juilliard School. While living in New York Rob served as a teaching artist for Jazz @ Lincoln Center. Rob has performed at such venues as The Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Small Jazz Club and Alice Tully Hall. Since returning to Ann Arbor, Rob can be seen performing with musicians Sean Dobbins, Rick Roe, Jesse Kramer, and Mike Malis. Rob has served on faculty for the AAPS summer music programs and is a regular clinician at schools across the district. Rob maintains an active private studio offering private lessons and small group classes.

Rick Roe
Rick Roe is a jazz pianist, composer, performer, and now veteran musician of the southeastern Michigan music community. He has produced and co-produced ten recordings (CDs) with original compositions and arranged jazz standards with some of the most accomplished jazz musicians in the world. He was a two-time semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition and winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition in the 1990s. His love of Thelonious Sphere Monkʼs music lead to his first recording titled Monkʼs Modern Music with bassist Rodney Whitaker and drummer Greg Hutchinson, which has become highly regarded among jazz lovers around the world. Rickʼs original music has also received deep appreciation from musicians and fans worldwide. His experience includes playing with Jazz greats Frank Morgan, Frank Foster, Marcus Belgrave, Wynton Marsalis, Donald Walden, Clark Terry, Louis Smith, Rodney Whitaker, Robert Hurst, Karriem Riggins, Greg Hutchinson, Emily Remler, Randy Gelispie, Buster Williams, Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Wycliffe Gordon, Derrick Gardner, Christian Macbride, Barbara Morrison, Mundell Lowe, Paul Keller, Randy Napoleon, Diego Rivera, Sean Dobbins, Mark Byerly, Etienne Charles, Jeremy Pelt, Alex Graham, Dwight Adams, and several more.

Rick has taught privately for almost thirty years and at Michigan State University (2001-2011) as an Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies. In 2017, he was a guest artist and coach for Juilliard Jazz Artist Diploma Ensemble in New York City, and has been performing with Rodney Whitaker for Jazz at Lincoln Centerʼs outreach program Jazz for Young People in the Detroit Public Schools for the past few years.

Known as a forward-thinking musician with a passion for the jazz tradition, guitarist Randy Napoleon tours with the legendary singer/pianist Freddy Cole and leads his own trios, quartet, and three-horn sextet. He is an assistant professor at Michigan State University, where he teaches jazz guitar.

Randy Napoleon
Napoleon is a composer and an arranger for singers, big bands, and small combos. He arranged as well as performed on Cole’s 2010 Grammy-nominated release from High Note, Freddy Cole Sings Mr. B. He is the guitarist on Cole’s Live at Dizzy’s Club: The Dreamer in Me, Talk to Me, This and That, and Freddy Cole Sings The Blues. He has performed with artists across the jazz spectrum such as Bill Charlap, Natalie Cole, Monty Alexander, Houston Person, Rodney Whitaker, Melissa Morgan, Aaron Diehl, Josh Brown, Dmitry Baevsky, Jared Gold, Etienne Charles, Mike Dease, Sara Gazarek, Brianna Thomas, Bootsie Barnes, Mike Karn, Eric Comstock. Will and Pete Anderson, and Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks.

Prior to joining Freddy Cole, Napoleon toured with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and appears on the recording, The Clayton Hamilton Orchestra: Live at MCG. He has toured extensively with Benny Green and crooner Michael Buble. Napoleon is featured on Buble’s Grammy-nominated CD Caught in the Act.

Napoleon has performed on The Tonight Show, Late Night With David Letterman, The View, The Today Show, and The Ellen DeGeneres show as well as TV shows in South America, Europe and Asia. Napoleon has played or arranged on over seventy records.

Guitarist George Benson calls Napoleon “sensational.” Detroit Free Press critic Mark Stryker says Napoleon “plays with a gentle, purring tone that makes you lean in close to hear its range of color and articulation.” Washington Post critic Mike Joyce praises his “exceptionally nimble finger-style technique.” Comparing him to Wes Montgomery, music critic Michael G. Nastos says, “he displays an even balance of swing, soul, and single-line or chord elements that mark an emerging voice dedicated to tradition and universally accessible jazz values.”

Napoleon has four records out as a leader, including his newest release - Soon. Soon features Napoleon in the classic guitar trio format with bassist Rodney Whitaker and drummer Gregory Hutchinson. Also featured on the album are two duets with trumpeter Etienne Charles.

Just for Kids: Explore the World of Cheese

33715995_10156658454886844_9154218192896262144_n.jpg

We ask all the kids who attend our JUST FOR KIDS tastings what else they want to taste with us, and the common answer is CHEESE (second only to candy, and c’mon, that’s pretty awesome for cheese). We’re calling all budding cheesemongers to join us for a delicious introduction to the world of cheese! In this JUST FOR KIDS tasting, we’ll explore the world of cheese by sampling and learning about different styles of cheese. We’ll talk about all the basics of cheese, including how cheese is made and what makes each style unique. It’s going to be so gouda (sorry for the cheesy pun. oops, we did it again! we’re just cracking ourselves up so we won’t be blue!)

We think kids ages 4-14 would most enjoy this tasting. Parents are welcome to attend at no charge and observe on the sidelines. All participants will receive a 20% off coupon to use after the tasting to eat and/or shop at the Deli. Please include your child's name, age, and any allergy information in the comments field when you register. Thank you!
