André Mehmari Trio

45710555_10156644898311153_4790395948301811712_o.jpg

Pianist, composer and master improvisor André Mehmari returns to Kerrytown Concert House in arguably his most compelling musical setting – the classic piano trio with bassist Neymar Dias and drummer Sérgio Reze.

There is something special about the sound of the piano trio that propels master pianists to another level. The trios of Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau – to whom Brazilian pianist André Mehmari is often likened – provide evidence of the power of piano trio alchemy. Mehmari now brings forth his trio – bassist Neymar Dias and drummer Sérgio Reze – to explore the work of Clube de Esquina. Led by Milton Nascimento, this group of Brazilian artists blended ideas from pop, folk music, bossa nova, jazz, and classical avant-garde to create hymns honoring friendship and dialogue that are among the greatest treasures of Brazilian music.

Kelbourne Woolens Germantown Trunk Show at Spun

46766812_1916098748496917_4118167342377074688_o.jpg

Welcome, Germantown, a yarn that reaches back through the history of US crafting to the early 1800s, when the name “Germantown” referred not to a specific brand of yarn but simply to good-quality worsted-spun wool from Germantown, Pennsylvania.

As reimagined by Kelbourne’s Courtney Kelley, today’s Germantown remains 100 percent North American sourced, spun, and manufactured, a product that harkens back to US industrial and agricultural history.

The Building Blocks Collection thus features only three patterns, Scarves, Hats, and Mittens. Each of these patterns includes three possibilities--three designs that increase in order of difficulty--and each breaks down the basic techniques involved in the knitting, offering tips and insights and links to Kelbourne’s exceptionally clear photo tutorials.

“Scarves” takes the knitter from simple garter stitch, through a sporty ribbed stripe, to cables. “Hats” moves from a rolled brim, to a ribbed brim, to an allover ribbed hat, simultaneously serving as a blank canvas for adding stitch patterns or colorwork. “Mittens” offers basic stockinette, broken ribbing, and stranded colorwork.

Celebrate our crafting past while you refresh your cold-weather future with Germantown!

Heartland Trio at Kerrytown Concert House

46459230_2193666577620392_7523765710170882048_o.jpg

Please join us to celebrate the release of Heartland Trio's first full-length album, "Year One." Music to start at 8:00pm.

PRAISE FOR YEAR ONE: “Constantly creative, intelligently arranged and often grounded in groove, this is one of the most engaging albums I’ve listened to in a while. The trio draws from an incredible amount of unlikely influences and sounds like a BAND with a clear direction and a very distinct voice." -- Walter Smith III, tenor saxophonist and composer

Founded by bassist Hannah Marks in 2017, Heartland Trio consists of Hannah Marks on double bass, Barclay Moffitt on tenor saxophone, and Rocky Martin on drums. The band draws from Marks’ musical upbringing in folk and spirituals, while grounded in the group’s improvisational and groove background of jazz and rock. Along with their original compositions, Heartland Trio also uses jazz standards, rock songs, and traditional folk tunes as vehicles for expression. The trio's sound reflects their desire to create with a gritty and spontaneous garage band mentality while exploring beyond the boundaries of the traditional roles of their instruments in a jazz setting.
