39332627_2145923125480943_913706605202112512_n.jpg

Miss Kim hosts a monthly Suckling Pig Party - each month features a different theme.
The theme for September: Build Your Own Bibimbob!

Did you know every region in Korea has its own bibimbob? You can find a different version wherever you go! Bibimbob is made with a bundle of local ingredients - which is why it varies so much and why every area has a different story. Balancing the taste of the varied local ingredients is where the creative fun kicks in.

For this dinner, we'll have whole suckling pigs and plenty of locally-sourced vegetables, condiments, sauces and sides for you to mix and match to make your perfect bowl (and a fully stocked bar ready for your order)!

Ready to make a bowl that suits your taste and shows off your creativity? Sign up now!

“He sprinkles stardust on whatever song he plays; you hold your breath in wonder.”
~ THE NEW YORK TIMES

Originally from Toledo, Ohio and now based in New York City, Larry Fuller is an internationally acclaimed jazz pianist, band leader, and clinician known to "swing like a beast!”. Early in his career, Fuller’s undeniable talent earned him the position of musical director and pianist for vocal great Ernestine Anderson, pianist for renowned drummer Jeff Hamilton’s Trio, and final pianist in legendary bassist Ray Brown’s Trio. Fuller also toured with guitar-vocal giant John Pizzarelli.

Since 2013 - harnessing his extraordinary experience - Fuller has led the Larry Fuller Trio. He presents a musical program rarely experienced live today, consistently praised for his emotive, swinging style, monster technique, and program versatility. From bop, to stride, to swing, to blues - Fuller’s return to Kerrytown Concert House is not to be missed!

Larry has appeared at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops, Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops, Hollywood Bowl, Kennedy Center, Bern International Jazz Festival, Shanghai Center Theater, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Blue Note (Milan, Tokyo & NYC), Auditorio Ibirapuera with Arte Viva Symphony Orchestra Brazil, and many more.

Spun's 3rd Birthday with Why Knot Fibers

46766812_1916098748496917_4118167342377074688_o.jpg

We are so pleased to welcome Why Knot’s Kat and Claire back to Spun on Saturday, December 1, to help us celebrate the season and mark our third birthday! If you haven’t met Kat and Claire, you’re in for a treat. If you have, you need to come say hi.

Starting at 11am, Kat and Claire will have a pop-up shop in the store with all kinds of goodies, including bases and colorways we don’t normally have room to stock (we wish we did!), birthday grab bags, kits, and a few special items from some of their favorite Up North vendors. We’ll celebrate all day, culminating in a birthday party on Saturday evening from 4 to 6, featuring cake, door prize drawings for Spun gift cards, and each other’s company. If you earn Spun Birthday Bucks on Small Business Saturday (November 24) they are good in the shop all day during our 3rd birthday.

So please make plans to celebrate with us--to celebrate friendship, warmth, and community; to celebrate Michigan and the many people who make it special!

The Midwest Swingers - Chicago Meets Ann Arbor

43035784_10156555456126153_1517744041138061312_n.jpg

Husband-and-wife duo Petra van Nuis and Andy Brown return to the Kerrytown stage alongside some of Michigan’s best for an evening of classic swing.

Petra van Nuis, vocals
Andy Brown, guitar
Jim Dapogny, piano
Paul Keller, bass
Pete Siers, drums

The Chicago Tribune praises "high-spirited music-making...worth savoring...fresh rather than nostalgic...van Nuis and guitarist Brown opened the proceedings in buoyant fashion, and when the rest of the band came roaring in, you realized how seriously they take the meaning of 'swing.'

Petra van Nuis is a jazz vocalist who has been described in Downbeat Magazine as having “a light, gorgeous, and fairly delicate voice…a gift for melody and plenty of rhythmic confidence.” A former dancer and Cincinnati native, Petra came to Chicago in 2004 via New York City with her husband, jazz guitarist Andy Brown. Petra performs regularly at Chicago’s prominent venues and the Jazz Institute of Chicago has featured Petra’s Recession Seven band at the Chicago Jazz Festival. Petra has been profiled in the Chicago Tribune and on WBEZ (Chicago's NPR station). Outside of Chicago, Petra plays at jazz festivals such as the Cleveland Classic Jazz Party, the Roswell Jazz Festival, and Joe Boughton’s Chautauqua Jazz Party. Internationally, Petra has toured in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Canada. Petra has recorded four CDs, two of which have been re-released in Japan on the Japanese label Muzak. Petra's latest Muzak release was chosen as in flight music for All Nippon Airways (Japan's largest airline).

Here Be Sirens

43052476_10156555452856153_4126291006729486336_o.jpg

"Here Be Sirens," an opera by Kate Soper, focuses on the creatures of Greek mythology in their everyday lives, going through the routine of causing shipwrecks and drowning sailors. As they consider their different attitudes toward their daily work, they delve deeper into the myths of their origins in equally hilarious and thought-provoking action.

Here Be Sirens presents the daily life of three sirens, who kill time on their island as they await an endless procession of doomed sailors. Peitho revels in the luxurious sensuality of their rite; Phaino stonily enacts the ritual with no inner feeling; and Polyxo longs for escape into the world of the real, delving into centuries of scholarship and research on her species in an attempt to untwist their circumstances. As the opera goes on, the sirens re-enact the abduction of Persephone, encounter (and battle) their favored sisters the Muses, and leave no rock unturned to plumb the depths of their own origins in this work of ‘audacious, genre-bending music theatre’ (Wall Street Journal).” - eamdc.com
